Decades in the making, the current situation in U.S. politics seems to be coming to a head. There is no denying that the foreign policy and budgetary decision making of our government has not only been skewed in favor of the wealthy, but it has had a decimating effect on the middle class. The racial tensions that have resurfaced numerous times in the past are being exacerbated by irresponsible and unenlightened people. The republican party is awash in stupidity thanks to a totally unqualified, reality TV host President. The virtual legalization of bribery in Buckley vs. Valeo, and later Citizens United vs. the FEC has created an oligarchy. The subsequent systematic attempts to deregulate pretty much every protection put in place has created a country where the rich control everything, the common person has pretty much no say, and shareholder profit is of supreme importance. The Democratic Party is demonstrably democratic in name only. It has devolved into a pale, less successful copy of the Republican Party, possessing all of the greed and sleazery of the Republicans, but none of their resolve. People with money in both parties fear Senator Sanders because he threatens their privileged world, and they know he will try to implement his platform. There isn't anyone else with the kind of record Bernie Sanders has. He has been on the right side of history consistently for decade after decade. He is the best candidate, and his record is proof. He is the person responsible for the attention now being paid to the idea of universal healthcare coverage and a plethora of other progressive ideas. His tenacity in Congress has resulted in many ideas shunned by for-profit politicians being discussed in the mainstream national dialogue. He is their worst nightmare, and our best hope.
